New modular Changing Places toilet at Woburn Safari Park

Changing Places Case Study: Woburn Safari Park

Prime Location

Set in over 300 acres of beautiful parkland with over 1,000 wild and exotic animals, Woburn Safari Park is a multi-award-winning visitor attraction where families can enjoy being together.

Whilst the park provides a host of accessibility initiatives, it was lacking toilet provision for severely disabled visitors. So, when Central Bedfordshire Council was bidding for funds from the DLUHC Changing Places programme, they ensured that a new facility at Woburn Safari Park formed part of their submission.

Modular Installation

Having initially advised Central Bedfordshire Council with their DLUHC bid, once funds were awarded, the RISE team were instructed to install a new Changing Places toilet at Woburn Safari Park (as well as another leading local attraction).

To minimise onsite disruption, the Woburn team chose to install a modular Changing Places toilet and utilise the expertise within their own in-house team to provide all enabling works, prepare services, and install foundations in accordance with RISE technical drawings.

The Woburn team did a solid job preparing the site whilst we built their modular facility at our Doncaster premises. And following a site inspection from our contracts manager to sign-off foundations and confirm that the site was prepared, we scheduled the delivery of their pod.

Custom Design

The installation process was straightforward. Our modular Changing Places toilet was delivered and lifted into position onsite by Hiab, with our tradespeople connecting services and commissioning the facility the same day.

As with all RISE facilities, the Woburn team made a number of choices to tailor their build specification. Blue grey Cedral lap weatherboard, violet blue entrance door, and black roofline plastics complete the exterior, whilst inside is finished grey marble wall panelling and oyster anti-slip flooring. Premium healthcare equipment is fitted throughout, and the facility is built in full adherence to BS 8300 and the Changing Places Practical Guide.

The newly registered Changing Places will be a welcome addition to profoundly disabled visitors, along with their families and carers, and will go a long way to help everyone enjoy an unforgettable safari adventure.

Scope of Works

Working to a four-week build programme, RISE provided a modular Changing Places facility on a ‘supply only’ basis, with the Woburn Safari team installing all groundworks. RISE designed, built, delivered, installed and commissioned the new facility, fully kitted out and ready for use.
