Kingsbury Water Park is a country park situated in Warwickshire and encompasses a series of 15 lakes set in 600 acres of parkland. Formed on the site of old gravel pits, the park is renowned for its diverse birdlife and wide range of outdoor activities.
To make the great outdoors accessible to all, the park already has a great range of facilities for disabled people including Tramper all-terrain mobility scooters for hire, regular mobility scooters, and swings and fishing pegs suitable for those with disabilities. And, with one Changing Places toilet in situ already, it is fair to say that Kingsbury Water Park are serious about opening the outdoors to everyone.
To further enhance the provisions at Kingsbury Water Park and make days out even more convenient for visitors, we were asked to install a modular Changing Places toilet. Although the park already has a CP facility at the Broomey Croft entrance, it made sense to add another facility due to the size of the park.
The park is owned by the Local Authority, but lot of activities and initiatives across the site are driven by the Friends of Kingsbury Water Park, a charitable group that act as the voice of park users. The group played a central role in getting the first toilet installed and knew the benefits another loo would bring, so once again, they sprang into action to raise the required funds.
The new toilet was partly funded by the Local Authority and money raised by volunteers over 18-months with initiatives like selling duck food to visitors! When the group had managed to raise the funds for the modular building but still needed an additional £10,000 for groundworks, RISE offered to take the project on as a whole and waiver this cost.
With funding secured and a High Five Promise from RISE, the project quickly got underway, and a 12sqm modular Changing Places toilet was craned into position and completed onsite in Summer 2021.
Situated near the main car park, the second Changing Places toilet at Kingsbury is sure to be a huge hit with visitors and their families. The first toilet is already well used and has already helped make life a little easier for so many people.
We were more than happy on this occasion to activate our High Five Promise and help with the cost of this modular facility. Local fundraisers had done so much already, and it is clear just how much Changing Places toilets are benefiting this local community.
