Working with Sefton Council, RISE installed a modular Changing Places toilet at the popular Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre. The water sports, leisure and hospitality centre is located in the heart of Crosby Coastal Park, Waterloo.
Forming part of the gateway to the Mersey Estuary and sitting in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the centre is committed to making the space accessible and inclusive so that everyone can experience a fun day out in this fantastic location.
The newly installed Changing Places toilet was funded through the Disabled Facilities Grant (part of the Better Care Fund) and forms part of a wider £3.1 million scheme, funded through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, to transform Crosby Lakeside and ensure the facilities will be well used and profitable for many years to come. The works include remodelled food and drink facilities, events spaces and hotel rooms, as well as a new ‘bunk barn’ providing overnight accommodation for groups. Improvements have also been made to the Leisure facilities. The hospitality facilities will be managed by Sefton Hospitality Operations Ltd (SHOL), a new company wholly owned by the Council.
As the works RISE conducted at the park were part of a huge regeneration programme with different third-party contractors working onsite, effective communication was a key part of getting this job right. RISE advised groundworks contractors, sharing all necessary information to ensure their foundations provided a level threshold with all required services prepped and ready for final connection.
Built at our factory in Doncaster and assembled off-site, the installation went very smoothly. We transported the pod to the centre, added final additions onsite, and then handed over the new facility.
Staff at the centre are keen to receive Changing Places awareness training which we will be delivering in the future in partnership with Access For All UK. The Sefton Council team also intend to add further Changing Places to the Borough.
The new Changing Places toilet at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre will be a huge asset to the park, visitors, and Sefton Council who are aware of how important accessibility is – particularly for people with disabilities.
Cllr Paul Cummins, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Sefton Council said:
“We are thrilled with the finished product. The Council have already been delighted with the positive reception to another Changing Places facility that was recently installed at Southport Market. We hope this additional facility will be just as well received and encourage more people to explore the local area.”
