Situated in the heart of rural Norfolk, ROARR! continues the work of legendary explorer Cornelius Weston-Smythe, who, during the 1800s, discovered that dinosaurs had thrived in the Weston Woodland near his family home.
For almost 200-years, the Weston-Smythe family have continued to protect and share this prehistoric heritage with the public, and today ROARR! stands as the UK’s best all-inclusive dinosaur-themed adventure park.
Due to its popularity, Broadland District Council included ROARR! as one of two key locations within their government funding application for Changing Places toilets. Once funds were approved, the RISE team were instructed to install a Changing Places facility and improve accessibility for severely disabled visitors.
The ROARR! team had earmarked an existing room to adapt into their new Changing Places toilet, though the space proved to be challenging — it was simply too big. The solution was to build a new ‘room within a room’, so we constructed a reinforced timber-frame structure to house the new 12m2 facility.
The Changing Places toilet features specialist healthcare equipment such as a height-adjustable changing bench and wash basin, ceiling track hoist system, as well as a privacy screen and shower facilities.
All construction and installation works were complete within two weeks – on-time and on-budget – much to the delight of ROARR! team, who valued the thoroughness of our service.
The new Changing Places at ROARR! is a welcome addition to a host of existing accessibility provision at the park, including accessible pathways, mobility scooter and wheelchair hire, and an accessible quiet/sensory room.
Going to the toilet comfortably is something that so many of us take for granted, but it can be a huge barrier for profoundly disabled people and their carers. By registering their new Changing Places facility, the ROARR! Team have taken another big step towards making their park a ‘roar-some’ day out for everyone.
