Modular Changing Places at Sean Road, car park, Pevensey Bay

Changing Places Case Study: Pevensey Bay

Years in the Making

As the UK’s leading Changing Places contractor, we’ve become accustomed to installing facilities for public sector clients. It’s commonplace for projects to take years to materialise, and that was certainly the case with Wealden District Council.

Driven by the council’s in house surveying team, and thanks to funding via the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), RISE installed a new modular Changing Places toilet at Sea Road car park in Pevensey Bay – a project that had been over four years in the making.

Built to Last

Having attended a Changing Places seminar years ago and maintaining contact with RISE since, the Wealden team understood the need for Changing Places and had identified what they believed to be the right product.

Durability and structural integrity were key at the early stages of this project, which had originally planned to install a modular facility and relocate it at a second site within a year or so. As things progressed, the need to relocate the facility didn’t transpire, though build quality remained paramount.

A Collaborative Project

Once Wealden District Council had secured funding for Changing Places from round one of the DLUHC Changing Places initiative, RISE were instructed to install a new modular facility.

Working with the council’s preferred groundworks contractor, we provided technical advice and foundation details, prior to delivering the facility, which was complete within three weeks.

Groundworks were excellently prepared, enabling the installation process to run smoothly and handover the project on the same day as delivery.

The Changing Places toilet at Sea Road car park is one of a few facilities planed in the Wealden district thanks to government funding. The facility features a host of specialist equipment to aid profoundly disabled users and is now registered on the Changing Places map.
