The Gateway Café in Peacehaven is a focal point within the South Downs National Park, with the on-site provision of bespoke playgrounds, skatepark, sport facilities, plus plenty of cycle and walking paths.
The team there are committed to inclusion for everyone. A new modular Changing Places toilet had been high on their Wishlist for some time, and the project was made possible in October 2022 thanks to funds secured via Lewes District Council from the Levelling Up Housing and Communities scheme.
RISE coordinated with Sue Moscatelli, Events, Projects & Amenities Officer at Peacehaven Town Council, to ensure the brief was fulfilled. Working as principal contractor, our turnkey service captured all required works from initial enabling and groundworks, to the installation of a new modular Changing Places facility.
Everything was completed within the agreed 5-week build programme, with minimal disruption caused onsite due to us requiring less than a week to install new foundations, prepare services and install the modular pod.
The facility itself is a standard RISE CP Pod, built in full compliance with BS 8300 and the Changing Places Practical Guide.
Utilising a steel superstructure, the high-specification pod provides excellent acoustic and thermal insulation, and was finished in ‘grey brown’ Cedral Lap cladding with ‘storm grey’ steel security door to compliment the adjacent existing building.
The interior is finished with high-impact wall panelling, anti-slip safety flooring, and custom graphic feature wall. A host of specialist equipment is installed, including a Guldmann ceiling track hoist system and Pressalit height-adjustable basin and changing bench.
The newly registered facility at the Gateway Café is the first of three new facilities planned by Lewes District Council, with further installations scheduled in Newhaven and Lewes – the latter is currently under construction at our premises.
