Cheshire West and Chester Council recently gave the go-ahead for a modular Changing Places toilet at Marbury Country Park, Northwich, which RISE was proud to install.
The recent addition has further improved suitability for those with disabilities and complex needs to explore the beautiful woodland, abundant wildlife, arboretum, and magnificent views across Budworth Mere. Situated in the heart of the Northwich woodlands, Marbury offers accessible paths with very little gradient to maximise suitability for everyone, ensuring that the countryside is accessible for all.
At RISE, we are always delighted to be able to help improve accessibility, particularly in parks and open spaces – the number one requested location by Changing Places campaigners.
After initially supporting Cheshire West and Chester Council’s successful application for Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) funding for Changing Places, RISE was quickly instructed to design, build, and install a new modular Changing Places at Marbury Park.
Completed in October 2022, the project had a five-week turnaround, which included additional time to resolve a groundworks issue, which required the pod to be slightly repositioned from it’s original location due to encountering unforeseen issues in the ground.
Changing Places aren’t just toilets: They create opportunity for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Users spend an above average time using the toilet, that’s why we install premium materials and specialist equipment as standard across all RISE modular CPTs – to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for carers and users alike.
The new facility has been well received, as Councillor Val Armstrong, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, comments:
“This is a really wonderful project. A lack of accessible facilities can become a source of anxiety and stress for disabled people – making it difficult to leave home, or stay out for long periods of time.
“Everyone has the right to access facilities that meet their needs and, a lack of these services prevents people from living their lives to the fullest, so we have taken action to secure this funding and can now provide these excellent facilities in beautiful Marbury Park.
“Thank you to everyone involved on this project and for helping to improve the lives of disabled people in the borough.”
Marbury Park was recently named fourth in the top 10 best kept urban parks in the country, following an analysis of TripAdvisor reviews, and their Changing Places toilet is fully registered and open to the public.
